Where are the best places to experience Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai?

There are numerous paid and free entry points to the festival. You can visit the Ping River, the Three Kings Monument, and the Thapae Gate to experience the festival like the locals do.

  • The Three Kings Monument : The majority of activities are carried out there. You can watch a Buddhist worship ritual and a candle-lighting ceremony.
  • On the Ping River, the Nawarat Bridge: The majority of locals in Chiang Mai go here to throw their krathong floating lanterns into the Ping River.
  • Thapae Gate : Numerous of the festival parades take place there.
  • Lanterns Festival at Northern Study Center and Yee Peng Lanna International (Mae Jo University) are excellent options if you want to participate in a mass lantern release and witness the simultaneous release of thousands of flying lanterns.

In addition to the release of lanterns, you can participate in a variety of cultural events like contests for decorations, worship services and traditional Thai dance performances.

Lantern Festival is will happen on full moon night in the 2nd of the Thai Luna Calendar.

So exact date changes every year.  For This Year Will Be Celebrated On November 27 & 28 , 2023

Local Market, Buffet Thai Dinner.

2 . CHIANG MAI SKY’S LANTERN FESTIVAL 2023

Hosted by: Thai Tabi (Established in 2017)

Capaicity: 3,000 – 5,000 attendees/day
Location: Northern Study Center  (at Mae Rim District, North 15 km from Chiang Mai downtown)
Ticket price: VIP 5,999 THB, Standard 3,999 THB 

Attending a mass lantern release event is a good idea if you want to see the incredible scene of thousands of floating lanterns falling into the night sky.
